| Looking easterly at the St. Lawrence River, from Quebec City, as it flows toward the Atlantic Ocean. Robert Flowers, Alice Pennington, Samuel Chatterton and many others embarked from here in 1784 for their journey down the St. Lawrence, around the Gaspé Peninsula into the Bay of Chaleur, and finally to--what is now known as--New Carlisle. Both Robert Flowers and Samuel Chatterton probably stepped onto North American soil for the first time somewhere near here. The buildings in the photograph, of course, did not exist at that time. | ||||
